A Tale of Perseverance and Victory: King Bruce and the Spider
Once upon a time, in the misty, beautiful lands of Scotland lived a brave and noble king known as Robert Bruce. He reigned with wisdom and fairness, and his people loved him. Nguyen kingdom was in peril, however. The English King wanted to conquer Scotland, and so a great war had begun.
King Bruce and his warriors battled fiercely for a long time. Though they were mighty, the English host was greater and more powerful. King Bruce fought back battle after battle to defend his land. But fate was cruel. He suffered six consecutive defeats and his army was in disarray. His castle was conquered, and his throne was usurped.
King Bruce was hurt, exhausted, and desperate, and had no option but to escape. He rode deep into Scotland's forests, across rivers and mountains, until he discovered a cave where he could rest.
Weak and hopeless in the dark cave he lay, Maybe I am just not meant to be king he thought. Maybe I should give up.
But at that moment, something landed in his sight. On a damp, cold wall of the cave a small spider tried to spin its web. It went up, but then fell down, slipped down. It tried again, and it failed again.
King Bruce gazed with fascination. The small spider was determined. It refused to give up. It climbed once…twice…ten times, only to fall down again.
“Poor little creature,” said King Bruce. “Why not just give up trying?”
But the spider did not stop. It climbed once more. Eleven times. Twelve times.
King Bruce leaned in closer. He began to count. Thirteen… Fourteen… Fifteen…
Every time it dropped, the spider would start again. And then, on the seventeenth try, something miraculous happened. The spider eventually made it to the top and started spinning it web.
King Bruce’s eyes widened. A fire lit up in his heart.
“If this little fellow doesn’t give up, why should I?” he thought.
His fatigue forgotten, he leapt to his feet. “No! I will not give up. I will fight for Scotland again!”
Rejuvenated with resolve, King Bruce exited the cave. Messengers were sent out across the land, summoning his warriors home. This time he pushed them more. He was very deliberate in every move. He learned from his mistakes.
Months later, he was ready. He rallied his brave warriors and went to war again. The English army was spell, but King Bruce was stronger. He fought like a lion leading his men without fear.
Finally, after years of arduous battles, the Scottish army emerged from the conflict victorious over the English. Scotland was free! The land of Scotland was free!
The crowd roared as King Bruce took back his crown. He sat on the throne with wisdom, remembering the lesson he learned from the little spider: Never give up, no matter of how many times you fall.
